Thursday Lame-dom.

Thursday Lame-dom.

What I’ve accomplished today:

  • Have acquired new passport photo. Lookin’ sketchy!
  • Finally downloaded a load of photos off my camera. Sadly, I didn’t get all of them because the sheer volume of them drained my battery while copying.
  • Ate a semi-delicious Lean Cuisine Ravioli lunch.
  • Found copy of Season 1 of Burn Notice. The last copy at Future Shop, as Wally World was allllllll sold out.

What I’m currently working on:

  • Learning how to integrate LDAP into my software so we can use Active Directory authentication. Woooo!!

What’s happening later:

  • Grocery Shopping. Jeelouse?
  • Laundry.
  • Chilling out.  Heck yes, I am.  While possibly catching the new Burn Notice tonight.

Prince of Persia: Awesome?

Prince of Persia: Awesome?

I would tend to think so.

Maybe it’s my love of all things Jake Gyllenhaal, or maybe it’s my appreciation for the beauty of the film itself, but I thought this movie was really enjoyable.  According to Rotten Tomatoes, it was a pretty big flop, but I disagree.

Some assumptions most movie goers SHOULD have made before going into this film:

  1. Yes, it is a franchise starter.  Much like the game, it is probably going to be destined for many sequels (if it makes enough money).
  2. Video game plots are generally not overly complex.
  3. It is Disney, so don’t expect much raunchiness or gore.

With those in mind, let’s have a look-see at some of the viewer comments, shall we?

“It plays too much like a video game.”

Perhaps that is because it is based on… wait for it… a video game.  Part of its appeal to me was that it stayed very true to the feel of the game series.  If you want a movie that doesn’t feel that way go and watch something else. (more…)

Okay, so no new pics today.

Okay, so no new pics today.

That’s probably because when I wasn’t busy doing other things this weekend, I was wasting away the time playing the new Dragon Age: Origins game from Bioware. I know, I know, lame. But seriously folks, this is wicked fun and also mighty addictive. For someone like me, who likes my games to be story driven, Bioware has once again come through with a game that even I can play (Casual difficulty setting, thank you very much) and that I can play how I want. I can be a good guy or a bad guy, human or elf or dwarf, and I can play out the story in whichever way I see fit. What I’ve concluded is that I am probably only going to end up spending more hours wrapped up in this game.

So if you know you are the addictive type, like me, and want to avoid having hours of your life drained away, you should probably avoid buying this game. If you have the time and money to burn, however, and are looking for a fun way to entertain yourself for a few weeks this is a great way to do it.

Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity

Last night, I went and saw this movie having really not much idea of what I was getting into. When it comes to gore and horror I am a bit of a sissy, but I found that last night’s movie wasn’t so bad for me. I didn’t scream or moan or jump like many in the audience did. What I did do, however, was scare the crap out of myself once I got home. After Scotty and I finished half a game of Star Wars Monopoly, I went to bed to find that I was scared out of my wits because it was dark and because, on occasion, my cats like to enter and exit my bedroom and they’re not always completely silent.

Folks, see this movie. If it doesn’t scare you in the theatre, it will scare you once you’re alone in the dark. I highly recommend it. I haven’t been this much of a fraidy cat since MACGYVER. (yes, MacGyver.  That will be a story for another day).

Television at its Finest

Television at its Finest

Due to reasons I’m not willing to discuss with the internet just yet, I’ve been staying indoors and watching a lot of “television” the past few days. I’ve discovered that there are waaaay too many good shows available on DVD or for download. I had decided a long time ago that there wasn’t much worthwhile on tv and thus, I have only the very basic of cable and I do not (GASP!) own a digital cable box. However… as it turns out, there are a lot of gems in and around the rest of the garbage. Some of the stuff I’ve been getting into is older, and some reasonably newer, but nonetheless I’ve been enjoying my nights in with some of the following shows:

  1. Drawn Together
    Viewing frequency: Often
Am almost through the last season.  It ran from 2004-2007, is grossly offensive, and also entirely funny.
  2. Supernatural
    Viewing frequency: Intermittent
I initially stopped watching somewhere around season 3, and have started catching up. What are we… in season 5 now?
  3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
    Viewing frequency: Semi-frequent
Okay, so this is an older show that hasn’t been around for a while and I think I stopped watching somewhere after Season 3 or something.  But my roomie borrowed all of the seasons from his sister and to be honest it starts off slow, but they don’t waste any time getting into the good stuff.  It’s kind of awesome.

So… that’s what I’ve been spending my last week or so doing on my down time.

For interest sake, other things I like (including but not limited to):

  • Castle
  • Being Human
  • X-Files
  • Spaced (always and forever)
  • Black Books
  • True Blood (it’s good, but not what I’d hoped for)
  • Clone High
  • Arrested Development
  • IT Crowd

Other than that and things still left un-disclosed, life’s been pretty routine.  We finished the last of the calendar photo shoots (Hooray!) and the calendar is now officially out of my hands and off to have the final picks made and the photo editing and layouts done.  Pretty excited.  Not gonna lie.  :o)

Out!

Our Last Gig.

Our Last Gig.

So, as I posted last time, we played our very last gig at Vern’s on Tuesday.  There’s going to be video, and possibly also some photos.  I’m not entirely sure I am going to post any of it though.  In short, it was awful.  The sound guy showed up late making us all a little tense, once we were onstage we weren’t relaxed and having fun, and the more we screwed up the more confidence we lost.  It was probably among our worst sets.  And it was a Tuesday.  Some way to throw a farewell show, huh?  Oh yeah, we always do it with style.
