Prince of Persia: Awesome?
I would tend to think so.
Maybe it’s my love of all things Jake Gyllenhaal, or maybe it’s my appreciation for the beauty of the film itself, but I thought this movie was really enjoyable. According to Rotten Tomatoes, it was a pretty big flop, but I disagree.
Some assumptions most movie goers SHOULD have made before going into this film:
- Yes, it is a franchise starter. Much like the game, it is probably going to be destined for many sequels (if it makes enough money).
- Video game plots are generally not overly complex.
- It is Disney, so don’t expect much raunchiness or gore.
With those in mind, let’s have a look-see at some of the viewer comments, shall we?
“It plays too much like a video game.”
Perhaps that is because it is based on… wait for it… a video game. Part of its appeal to me was that it stayed very true to the feel of the game series. If you want a movie that doesn’t feel that way go and watch something else. (more…)
Paranormal Activity
Last night, I went and saw this movie having really not much idea of what I was getting into. When it comes to gore and horror I am a bit of a sissy, but I found that last night’s movie wasn’t so bad for me. I didn’t scream or moan or jump like many in the audience did. What I did do, however, was scare the crap out of myself once I got home. After Scotty and I finished half a game of Star Wars Monopoly, I went to bed to find that I was scared out of my wits because it was dark and because, on occasion, my cats like to enter and exit my bedroom and they’re not always completely silent.
Folks, see this movie. If it doesn’t scare you in the theatre, it will scare you once you’re alone in the dark. I highly recommend it. I haven’t been this much of a fraidy cat since MACGYVER. (yes, MacGyver. That will be a story for another day).
Nerds of the Trek variety unite.
Well, maybe except for my friend Scotty, who is more of a Star Wars nerd. Nonetheless, he was kind enough to get us tickets to the advance screening of the new Star Trek movie. Now, being someone who never really watched the original series, having preferred Next Generation over it, I still found myself critiquing certain aspects of the film that I never knew I cared so much about. That being said, the Internet has enough nerds and jackasses to rip it apart without me being one of them so I will simply state my overall experience as pretty damn kick ass. Very well executed, action packed, and also surprisingly well cast.
Prior to movie time though, we spent the evening out at PMS Hobby shop where I finally picked up canvases to start painting again. I’ve only ever dabble a small amount in this form of artistry and I never seemed to do very well at it. But, I shall give it another shot because I can and because hey? Why the hell not.
Oh, and I also bought myself a fancy new crib board at my friend Corey’s shop. So, if you fancy yourself a crib player bring it, my friends.
Pretty good haul for a Thursday night, no?
